“The Wizard of Paws”: 9th Annual Mystic Mutts of Revelry Parade
“The Wizard of Paws”: 9th Annual Mystic Mutts of Revelry Parade “We’re off to see the ‘The Wizard of Paws’” say the planners at The Haven as they prepare for their 9th annual Mystic Mutts of Revelry Parade. The roads may not be yellow brick, but on Saturday, February 11 at 2:30pm, hundreds of dogs and their human companions will wind thru the streets of downtown Fairhope, where the rainbow colors of purple, green and gold welcome all to merriment and fun. Leading the pack will be Grand Marshals Cherish Lombard, from the hit morning show Fox Studio 10, and popular DJ Q-Tip from WABB. With the Wizard of Paws theme, the Haven hopes to see lots of costumed Dorothys, Scarecrows, Tin Men and Wicked Witches in Mardi Gras bling! As the sub-theme says, “In the land of Paws every Toto finds his home”, this fundraiser will continue to help homeless and abused animals. The no-kill animal shelter was the first to bring this trend of masked humans with their pets to the Eastern Shore, growing every year. “The Mystic Mutts of Revelry has become Fairhope's own wacky version of the Westminster Dog Show and a Mardi Gras parade all wrapped up in one colorful package!” says Aimee Egbert, Chair of the parade. “People of all ages and all walks of life truly enjoy this special tribute to our beloved furry friends.” The registration fee is $25 for one pet and two human companions, $5 for each additional animal from the same household and each additional human companion. All children ages 12 and younger are free to walk in the parade with a registered adult. Registration will be held the day of the event from Noon to 2:00pm at the hospitality tent at the Fairhoper’s Community Park located on the corner of Morphy and S. Church Streets. Pets must be registered to be eligible to participate in the parade. What is a Mardi Gras parade without a royal court? Mutts can be part of the Royal Court by paying a $75 registration fee. Royal Court Members can have unlimited Mutts and Escorts from the same household, and may ride on the Royal Court Float on a first come basis, as space permits. The highest bid made for a female dog will win the honor of Queen, and the highest bid for a male dog will win the honor of King. The runners up bid for each will be crowned Princess and Prince. Bids begin at $100. To place a bid, mail a completed Bid Form to: MMOR Bid,P. O. Box 284, Montrose, AL 36559 or hand deliver the form in a sealed envelope marked "MMOR Bid" to The Haven at 559 S. Section St., Fairhope. All bids are due in-hand by Thursday, February 9 at 5pm. For bid forms and more information please contact mysticmutts@bellsouth.net, call 251-929-3980 or visit www.havenforanimals.org
